NEWS AND REVIEWS!

Posted by dbreynolds on August 27, 2012

I want to start by reminding you all that RAPHAEL is currently being discussed in the Cellie Book Club at THE CELL, which is the Fan Board for J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. You need to register if you want to participate, and I’ll be dropping by for a few days at the end of the week to answer questions.
.
Also, THIS FRIDAY, August 31, I’ll be doing a LIVE CHAT in the GoodReads Group GOTTA HAVE PARANORMAL ROMANCE WITH A KICK. I’ll be there for a live, TWO hour Q & A session, beginning at 7:30 pm Eastern (4:30 pm Pacific). That’s THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 31!
.
And now for what has become my weekly TV report … There was no LONGMIRE (sad DBR.) But GRIMM is continuing its improved format this season. The pace is better, no more whiny Juliette (although it looks like she’ll be back, but since she doesn’t recognize Nick, maybe she won’t be around much. One can hope.) Nick’s Mom (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) is an excellent addition to the lineup, and I like that we’re not entirely sure whose agenda she’s following. Speaking of which, Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) is a very fine looking man, especially with his shirt off, and a consistently interesting character. I’ll be curious to see how his agenda changes, given his already evident sympathy with Nick’s activities and now with the difficult relationship with his family. Anyway, good season so far.
.
And then, of course, the TRUE BLOOD season finale … and it couldn’t come soon enough. I think it says something when the best line of the whole show happens only four minutes in. It was a great line, though, and uttered by the scrumptious, and sometimes adorable, Eric Northman (i.e., Alexander Skarsgard.) MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!! When Eric stakes Russell and Russell explodes, Eric gets this happy/thoughtful look on his face and says,”Well, that felt even better than I thought it would.” THAT’S Eric from the books, and it was the best line of the whole show. And it was pretty much downhill from there. First of all, if I never see another vampire explode in a gush of blood and squirmy guts, it will be too soon. ENOUGH! We get it, okay? Every time I turned around in this episode, another vampire was gushing. Ick. And then we get more naked Sam and a return of all the naked people from Season Two, which was the all-time worst season of any show ever. The only difference is these people were in cages and they didn’t have all black eyes, and (thank God) they weren’t humping each other like crazy. Double Ick. I was talking to a friend the other day, and we realized that Sam and Luna have spent almost this entire season naked. Nice job for the actors. Not. But at least Emma was finally rescued.
.
But, okay, so we move on to idiot Jason who, for some reason is still talking to his dead parents, and those dead parents have, for some reason, become insidious whisperers urging him to kill vampires. The writers had finally permitted Jason to be something other than a total boob, and now they’ve taken that away and put him right back in the boob category. Gosh. I can hardly wait to see how THAT turns out. Double not. And let’s not forget Alcide and his Dad having a cookout, Alcide gets juiced up on V and goes and beats JD to death before … what? Ripping his heart out? It wasn’t clear to me what he did, but it was something gushy, so I was just as happy not seeing the details. Can’t imagine why the writers left that out, though. I mean, everything else explodes, why not show Alcide ripping out the bloody heart and raising it over his head like some monkey from 2001? (The movie, I mean.)
.
Wait, I almost forgot (that should tell you something right there) about Lafayette’s Cajun margueritas and Andy’s six new babies, delivered from his fairy lover who had an orgasm with each baby she popped out. What a moronic story line. What’s the point of that? Maybe the six are going to be the key to defeating Waldo? And speaking of Waldo, his name wasn’t even mentioned in the finale, although I’m quite certain he’ll show up next season. Gosh, I can hardly wait. (yawn) But on to the big finale of THIS season, and the second best line of the show. Tara and Sookie are about to free Jessica and Pam from their silver cages, and Sookie needs to open the cage doors because they’re silver, but Tara goes ahead and opens Pam’s, and Sookie starts to protest, but then Tara and Pam go into a MAJOR liplock, and Sookie looks at them and says … “Oh. Okay.” Anna Paquin’s delivery was perfect. Second best line of the show. And then the big cliffhanger finale scene and what a shocker it was, huh? Bill drinks all of Lillith’s blood and he (predictably) gushes, but then (wait for it) he bubbles back!! Kind of like the new and improved Terminator guy in Terminator 2 (and why not, because Robert Patrick was in both of them – Whoa! Freaky, huh? ::sigh::) Anyway, Bill comes back. Were you amazed? Were you shocked? Nah, me neither. Just one more blood and guts dripping naked vampire. So … the season’s over. And, you know what? I don’t care. I won’t miss the show, won’t be on pins and needles for its return, although I’ll keep watching to see what they do with Eric, who’s the only character I care about anymore.
.
Huh, that review went on a bit longer than I expected, but it’s the season finale, so, it’s the last one. I’m now waiting for Criminal Minds new season, and the Mentalist. And then there’s Once Upon a Time, which seemed poised at the end of last season to begin the same thing all over again … which would be boring, but we’ll see.
.
Moving on! BOOKS. That’s right, I actually don’t spend all of my time watching TV! I write books (yes, I do!) and I read books! And lately, I’ve been reading a lot of books that don’t do much for me. They go into the DO NOT REVIEW folder on my Kindle, and I move on with hope in my heart. Good news! My hope was not in vain. There are a couple of books I’ve just finished which I’ll be reviewing, and since I only “review” books I liked, that means … uh, that I liked them. :} Hopefully, I’ll get those reviews posted later this week.
.
On my personal book front, the reviews of BETRAYED continue to be excellent! I confess I’m relieved, because of the ending. Those of you who have read it know what I mean. I was a little worried, but you all seemed to appreciate what I was going for, so … thank you! And LUCAS isn’t that far away! LOL
.
Okay, I’ve taken up a lot of your time already, but this week’s post wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the loss of a truly courageous man who literally changed our view of the universe. Neil Armstrong died this week from complications of heart surgery. Rest in Peace, sir. You opened the universe for so very many of us.

See you next week, my fellow readers.

A WEEK OF BETRAYED!

Posted by dbreynolds on August 20, 2012

BETRAYED made it out this week! Despite the mix-up on Amazon (and what’s up with that?) my terrific readers found the book and the very first Cyn & Raphael Novella got off to a terrific start! So, thanks to all of you, especially those of you who posted (wonderful!) reviews and/or shared links to the book with your friends and family.
.
Very special thanks to CARLA GALLWAY and the members of MY NEW STREET TEAM who tagged and shared and liked and searched! Yes, I have a STREET TEAM. If you’re interested in joining, just go to the TEAM’S FACEBOOK PAGE.
.
Also, there are still a few giveaways going on. I visited PARANORMAL HAVEN with a character interview and giveaway.
.
.

And I dropped in at
.
I SMELL SHEEP’s
ALPHA MALE DINER

with the perfect Vampire recipe (RAPHAEL, who else?) and another giveaway.
.
MORE GIVEAWAYS!! BOOK MONSTER REVIEWS and LITERAL ADDICTION have posted a terrific profile of all the books, and are doing a double giveaway with a copy of BETRAYED and an e-copy of RAPHAEL up for grabs.
.
There are more events coming up, including (and I’m very excited about this one!) a discussion of RAPHAEL in the Cellie Book Club at THE CELL, which is the Fan Board for J. R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. I’ve been a fan of JRW’s Brothers since the very first book, and I’m thrilled to have one of MY books discussed there!! You’ll need to be registered to participate. The discussion starts August 25, but in order to facilitate free and open discussion, I won’t be dropping in until the end of the week to answer questions.
.
I’ll post other events as we get closer to the dates, but there’s lots more on the way.
.
And let’s not forget my beautiful LUCAS who will be coming soon (October 30, 2012.) Although, just a reminder that Amazon does NOT TAKE PRE-ORDERS for my books. I think they only do that for the major publishers. :(
.
And finally, because I feel I must … TRUE BLOOD … ::sigh:: Well, at least Eric has proven he’s not an idiot, while Bill is every bit as weak as I always thought, letting himself get swept up into the I Love Lillith brigade. If I have to look at that naked, gory woman one more time … ugh. And apparently Russell is pretty damn powerful, huh? Even super/elder Ke$ha dancing fairy can’t take him. I feel confident Super Sookie will, however. (yawn) It’s odd that no one seems to know (or care) who Waldo is, except maybe Sookie, but she’s quickly distracted by Russell. There’s too much going on in that show to be resolved in the single remaining episode. It’s only a question of what they’ll leave hanging. I’m sure Waldo will be left for next season, but hopefully, the Emma storyline at least will be resolved. I say again, that one creeps me out. We did get one, too short, flash of the hunk-a-licious Alcide chopping wood … and I mean that literally. He was theoretically chopping wood, though he seemed mostly to be chopping dirt. Oh, well. At least he was half-naked.
.
Okay, it’s late and I’ve got to get some writing done before the night is over.
.
See you next week, and thank you once more for making the week of BETRAYED such a success!

2 MORE DAYS ‘TIL BETRAYED!

Posted by dbreynolds on August 13, 2012

I can’t believe it’s here already, but BETRAYED’s official release date is Wednesday. I’m on Amazon watch, in case it pops early, and I’ll let you know if it does. By the way, the image above is the final hi-rez version of the cover. If you click on it, you can see the cover in full beautiful color!
.
In the meantime, there are more early reviews of BETRAYED, and they’re all good. You can check them out on GOODREADS. And at DAWN and WINNIE BOOK REVIEWS
.
And then because Wednesday is RELEASE DAY, I’ve got TWO guest posts and giveaways that you won’t want to miss. Our favorite Huff ‘n Puff reporter will be visiting this Wednesday, August 15th, with Cyn and Raphael at PARANORMAL HAVEN In addition to the guest post, The Haven will be posting their review of BETRAYED, and I’ll be giving away a free copy of the novella, too.
.
Also on Wednesday, I’ll be dropping in at I SMELL SHEEP where I’ll be the Guest Chef and bringing along my recipe for the perfect RAPHAEL. Yum!! And, of course, another giveaway of BETRAYED. And Sharon will be posting her own review of BETRAYED, too.
.
And if you don’t win either of those giveaways, not to worry. I have lots more promos in the coming weeks. I’ll be posting them all here, and on Facebook, too. So stay in touch.
.
Also this week, my wonderful writing partner, Steve McHugh, posted a new interview with yours truly. If you want to know why I’ll survive the coming Zombie Apocalypse, and a few other things, too, drop by STEVE McHUGH’s BLOG and check it out. And while you’re there, be sure and check out Steve’s fantastic first book, CRIMES AGAINST MAGIC. It’s getting nothing but glowing reviews all around!
.
On the subject of FACEBOOK, by the way, they’re forcing me into their Timeline format. I’ve been retooling the damn thing for days, so I’ve gone ahead and jumped with it instead of waiting for their drop dead date. I’ll be keeping an eye on it, to see if I’ve screwed anything up. I’m not crazy about it, but you can’t fight, er, um, progress(?) LOL
.
And speaking of progress, I DID IT! I cleaned out the underwear drawer. I tossed an entire CPK huge bag of stuff, and now every time I open the drawer, I’m startled and reaching for the wrong thing. And I feel so proud every time. LIttle victories, people. Little victories.
.
Also, I posted this on FACEBOOK, but I also want to call your attention to a lovely new review of THE VIGNETTES from THE ROMANCE REVIEWS! Always nice to hear!
.
TV Reviews … first, I’m sad to report that LONGMIRE had its season finale last night. I feel as though the season just started and now it’s over already. ::sniff:: FALLING SKIES is still going, and I admit I’m not at all surprised that 2nd Mass didn’t fit well into Charleston’s underground mall world. I do have a question, though. Where are they getting all that food they’re serving on the buffet line? They must be going above ground for that, right? And then there’s ::sigh:: TRUE BLOOD. I have no idea what’s going on there, and no interest either. When the strongest character in the show is TARA, a character I never liked, we’ve got trouble. Bill is … I don’t know what Bill’s game is. Pam is a total wimp, which she is NOT in the books. And Eric, who should be stronger than just about everyone except Russell, is one of the weakest vamps around. Russell at least is in character, and now that he’s broken free, maybe he’ll even be interesting. And Sam and Luna better rescue Emma quick, because that storyline makes me a little sick. And then, yes, I have a question. Apparently a Stackhouse ancestor made a deal with Waldo that essentially gives him Sookie. So far, so good. Just one tiny, little question. I though Sookie’s fae blood came to her through her Gran–the one who died in the first season. But Gran was only a Stackhouse by marriage, so if someone made a deal with the fairies, it shouldn’t be a Stackhouse, should it? Of course, maybe it’s only in the books that the fae blood comes through Gran. And that’s it for this week’s TV. One of my favorite shows, STRIKE BACK is picking up its new season next week, I think, so that consoles me for the loss of LONGMIRE. A little bit.
.
And that’s it for this week.
.
See you all on the other side of BETRAYED! Squeeeeee!

BETRAYED!

Posted by dbreynolds on August 6, 2012

No, not me personally! The first Cyn & Raphael e-novella!! And here’s the cover. I love Raphael’s sexy hand. I have a weakness for men with beautiful hands. Plus, you can’t see it here, ‘cuz I don’t have the hi rez image yet, but Raphael’s eyes are black with a silver spark. So pretty.

Don’t forget, the release date is August 15, although some reviewers are already reading it, and the reports are good so far.
.
Okay, now that the big news is done with, let me say I’m typing this from my desktop computer, which is a pain in the butt! My network router is having a nervous breakdown, so I’ve had to abandon my comfy chair and laptop, and work in my home office in order to connect directly to my modem. Argh! I don’t have the time or inclination at 1:00 in the morning to diagnose the damn router problem. So I bit the bullet and moved in here. Stupid router.
.
On the plus side, I managed to post several reviews this week! Of course, now I’ve read even more books, so I have more reviews to post, but at least the review pile’s getting shorter. You can check out the latest reviews under the WHAT I’M READING NOW tab above, or on my bookshelf at GOODREADS.COM.
.
On the big screen … I didn’t see any movies this week. Or last week either. I will definitely be seeing Dark Knight Rising very soon, and I can hardly wait for Bourne Legacy! I loved the Matt Damon Bourne movies, and Jeremy Renner is one of my favorite actors.
.
On the small screen, aka television, I watched with bated breath tonight as the JPL rover Curiosity touched down on Mars!! I was in geek heaven, watching it on a live feed from JPL. It landed perfectly, and we saw thumbnail images almost immediately. There was much geek hugging and kissing in the control center. It was a beautiful thing. You can check it out yourself at the JPL/NASA website
.
More small screen news and reviews … I watched last week’s (July 30) episode of TRUE BLOOD, and this is my report … (1) watching the Alcide sex scene … Sookie doesn’t know what she missed. Hot, hot, hot!!! (2) Bill is (as I’ve always known) a wimp. One minute he’s all “I won’t be bullied into killing the mother of a child (in a southern accent, of course,) and the next he’s all “outta my way, Salome, gimme some neck!!” WTF? (3) Eric is the only rational one, and how wrong is that? Eric’s supposed to be a crazy, bloodthirsty Viking, not the only sane vampire in the room!
.
Now, my next comments relate to both last week and this week. First, I am SO glad that the Terry and the Ifrit storyline is OVER! Didn’t care then, don’t care now! I am glad, however, that at least Lafayette made some money on the deal. LOL And as for the creature who killed Sookie’s parents … Am I the only one who thought Claudine was yelling “Waldo” instead of “Warlow?” And I was thinking, Well, THAT’s where he’s been all this time!”
.
But mostly, as I watched this week’s episode with the gory, charred looking Lilith and still boring, but bloodthirsty Bill, and naked guys on lit-from-below tables being eaten alive, and pigs and Bud Dearborn and Fangtasia going to hell … and all I could think was … What the hell happened to this show? This is kind of like Season 2 when they went nuts with Mariann and the naked middle-aged orgies, which had no place in the books. I’m having trouble figuring out a reason to keep watching at this point. If not for my DVR, I wouldn’t watch at all.
.
Not all is lost in TV land, however. Well, not for a couple of weeks anyway. LONGMIRE returned this week, but it only has one more episode to go, which is sad. FALLING SKIES came back, too. I’m not sure how many episodes they have left, but in this week, they reached Charleston, and contrary to expectations, all is not lost. Well, except for the harnessed little girl who lost her guardian and now … who the heck knows? Is she connected, is she not? She’s definitely in dire need of a good manicure!
.
Okay, that’s it for this week. I’ll be back next week with a new contest to celebrate my 700th Facebook friend! In the meantime, be sure and mark your calendars for August 15 and BETRAYED, and I’ll see you next Sunday.
.
xoxo
