GETTING READY FOR #10

writer at work blackSo, last time we “spoke,” I had just turned in DECEPTION, which is Vampires in America Book #9. I’ve already gotten revisions from my editor, made them, and turned the new manuscript in. She loved the story, by the way, so, yay! I also received feedback from the first of my beta readers, and she loved the story, too. Double yay!

For those who don’t know yet, DECEPTION is a full-length novel featuring Cyn & Raphael, and it’s the first book of a new story arc within the Vampires in America universe. The story arc has a subtitle, which is “The Vampire Wars,” but we’re still figuring out how to structure that within the titles. The entire story arc is consistent with the existing timeline and characters, and takes place shortly after the events in VINCENT. You all know that Raphael and the other North American vampires have been preparing for war … well, now it’s begun, and DECEPTION is the first story within those events. That’s why the titles of the next five Vampires books are different. Instead of a name, it will be the stages of war. By the way, characters from the previous books will feature in all five of these books, alongside new characters.

DECEPTION will soon be available for preorder. I’ll let you know when. And I hope to have a cover soon, too.

story outline stickiesIn the meantime, it’s time for me to start working on #10. Can you believe it? #10!! This one’s called ALLIANCE, and it takes place in the South. Over the years, many of you have asked about the South, whether we’d ever learn more of Anthony’s story, or whether the South would get a new lord. Those questions will all be answered in ALLIANCE, plus we’ll spend some quality time with Vincent and Lana, too.

Wolves-Bane-New-Cover-200x300So, it’s a new year and a new book for me, plus lots of great new books from some of my favorite writers, like this one … Wolves’ Bane by my friend and fellow writer, Angela Addams. This is the first full-length story in her Order of the Wolf universe, and if you like shifters, specifically wolf shifters, you should check it out. It’s a different take on werewolves, where the wolves aren’t always the good guys … or the bad guys. In the previous novellas, the wolves were sexy rock and rollers and definitely the guys we were rooting for. In Wolves’ Bane, the tables might be turned. It’s all up to Morgan Stills, who will have to choose.

I’m also looking forward to new books by Nalini Singh, Kate Daniels, John Sandford and so many others. I just have to be patient and wait. ::sigh::

In the meantime, I’ll be writing ALLIANCE!

Have a great week, see you back here, same time, same place.

xoxo

  1. Can I believe it? #10? You bet your bippy I believe it! Perhaps I should qualify that and say I’ve always hoped for #10 and beyond. I love that you are continuing the VIA series but with a new focus. So many other series start to get stale because the same focus is perpetuated. I have loved this series from the get-go. I open one of the books and I’m immediately transported into the story. Kudos to you D.B. for giving us that mesmerizing experience. I look forward to DECEPTION and beyond.

  2. What Dot said! (Bippy – ha!) And a happy editor and beta reader? Fabulous! Bet you’re breathing a bit better – I know you were a teeny anxious about the new arc. Sounds like Bombay Blue martini time to me.

Thanks for the nifty tidbits you dropped in the above. So excited for this new arc. Oh! Better sub-title: “Raphael Kicks Some Vampire Euro-trash Ass!” Sorry….hee.

OK – it’s that time again. D.B.’s semi-annual “Shatner at Comic-Con” question: We ARE going to learn Juro’s brother’s name in Deception, right? Right? Alrighty, then. I’ll take that eye-roll as a yes.

And, ooh! Alliance! We get to hear about Anthony and a possible new Lord? Excellent. Lots of extra cave time, though. Don’t forget to take care of you. Much love, kiddo. C.
