SORRY ABOUT THE SAPPHIRES

Posted by dbreynolds on May 13, 2013

What a great exit line! Lord Jamie Lannister is definitely growing on me. For those of you who don’t get the reference, I was watching the latest episode of Game of Thrones tonight, groaning that there are only 3 episodes left, and realizing that it will take YEARS before they tell the entire story. This is a fantastic fantasy series that’s been translated very faithfully to the small screen. And you know why? Because George R. R. Martin did the adaptation, and didn’t let them destroy his story. Unlike certain other HBO shows I could mention.

Hmmm, back to the homefront. I’m slowly reclaiming my house. All of the repair people are gone! Yes, our house is once again ours. No more space suits, no more 8:00 am doorbells. New paint, new carpet, dry floors. And gods be praised, we’re once again sleeping in our bedroom. That was the first room I completed, our bedroom. What a relief. Now, I have to move everything back into my office, which means wiring the computers and printers, etc. I had to start from scratch because they took everything (and I mean everything) out. In the end, it will be much neater than the tangled pile of cords (some not even connected to anything anymore) that was there, so that’s a good thing. Next up will be returning all the books and files to their proper places.

In fact, I’ve been working so hard getting everything back in order, that I’m going to treat myself to Iron Man 3 this week. And then … STAR TREK! Woohoo! INTO DARKNESS! I can hardly wait. And have you all seen the Leonard Nimoy/Zachary Quinto Audi Commercial? It’s so funny and so much fun! I think Quinto is a terrific new Spock.

The next Cyn & Raphael e-novella HUNTED went off to my publisher tonight. I held onto it for a while, since it’s so closely tied to the story in ADEN, but I’m far enough along there that the story is set. So my publisher is happy, I’m happy, and you all will be happy to hear that HUNTED is on track for a Summer release. Lots of Cyn & Raphael, with a taste of Lucas & Kathryn, and a teaspoon of ADEN.

And I’m finally making wonderful progress on ADEN. Now that I have my workspace back to myself, I’m writing like crazy and it feels so good. What a relief. I was beginning to think my brain was permanently clogged. But, nope. Aden is with me all the way. :)

And speaking of ADEN, don’t forget the BRENDA NOVAK AUCTION to NAME A CHARACTER IN ADEN. May is half over, which means so is the auction.

Wait, did I say May is half over? WTF? I’ve got to get back to work! Six weeks of camping in the living room have seriously cut into my deadline margin. I’ve updated my 100 Book Challenge, posted some books on Yy GoodReads Page, and reviewed John Sandford’s latest Lucas Davenport. Gotta get to work.

See you next week!

xoxo

SHORT AND SWEET

Posted by dbreynolds on May 6, 2013

It’ll be short and sweet this week, because I’m in it hot and heavy with Aden, but keep reading, and I’ll make it up to you!

First up, this coming week is the first ever International Clitoris Appreciation Week. When I saw this, all I could think about was imagining a debate in the U.S. Congress as they tried to decide whether or not to endorse such week of recognition. Especially since I’d guess that at least 3/4 of the Neanderthals in that august body can’t even say “clitoris,” without fearing for their immortal souls. ::eye roll:: But alas, there never was such a debate and the subject is actually quite serious. Sponsored by the group CLITORAID, it’s designed to call attention to the issue of female genital mutilation, a very worthy cause.

Beginning this past week was the Brenda Novak On-Line Auction for Diabetes Research, which always has tons of good stuff for both readers and writers, and everyone else, too. Included for the first time this year is an offering from yours truly to NAME A CHARACTER in ADEN’s BOOK. Just for comparison, the last person to win one of my NAME YOUR CHARACTER auctions created the character of Judy Peterson, Lucas’s horse trainer in LUCAS. So be sure and check out my listing and all the others in the auction. Bidding gets hot and heavy in the last few HOURS and MINUTES of the month, so be sure and get your bid in early. Every item is set up for limit bidding, which means you set your max amount, and if counter bids come in, the system bids for you up to your limit.

Good news on the wrecked house front … unless fate intervenes, they’ll be installing carpets this week, which is the next to last step in reclaiming use of my entire house. I’m almost afraid to hope for it, afraid to temp those fickle bitches of Fate.

No movies this week, though I am definitely going to be seeing Iron Man 3 on the big screen. I did watch the latest Game of Thrones, and I have to say, even though she has the IQ of a potted plant, I really feel for Sansa Stark. I used to just find her irritating and clueless, but by now, the poor girl deserves a break. Oddly, Tyrion is probably the most decent of her potential suitors. As for the rest of the Lannisters, little King Geoffrey is clearly a sociopath, and his dear mother Cersei is getting what she deserves. I had a bad moment at the end of this episode, because of the way they ended it with Baelish talking about chaos as a ladder and flashing on all the different players. I thought somehow it was the end of the season! But, no, there’s more.

Books – I’ve updated my 100 Books list, and posted a couple of reviews on GoodReads, too.

And now, to make up for the short and sweet … a little short and sweet something from ADEN.

Aden shrugged. “You were very determined, and I was curious. What is it you really want, Sidonie?” He traced one finger along the delicate curve of her collar bone, bending close enough to draw in the sweet scent of her blood. She shivered, though not entirely in fear. He’d been right before, she was aroused by his presence, or maybe simply by the thought of having a vampire drink from her. But there was fear there. And that was far more arousing to him than her curiosity.

Have a great week!

A LOVELY, WARM EVENING

Posted by dbreynolds on April 22, 2013

Today was beautiful and warm in SoCal. I feel almost guilty saying that, because I have friends in the more northern latitudes who are still being snowed upon. I say “almost guilty” because … hey, it’s SoCal! It was like 88-89° F, and the evening was balmy and warm. So lovely, and it’s been a rough couple of weeks with more to come, so the DH and I got all dressed up in our new, giant closet (aka THE DEN!), turned off the lights in our big new master bedroom (aka THE LIVING ROOM!) and went out to dinner.

Wonderful restaurant, we sat on the patio, had a drink (I only had one, because I had to go back home and work) delicious food and even dessert. To hell with calories. Like I said, it’s been a rough couple of weeks.

On the other hand, progress has been made. There are no more holes in my walls, for which I’m grateful. No more worrying about creeping creatures of any leg number sneaking into my house. Not that this was ever a worry, truly — the gaps were only in the (not so) dry wall, not the outer walls — but it’s a thing with me. So, walls are closed, but lots yet to do. And can someone please explain to me (the writer who works all night long) why every craftsman arrives at 8:00 am? Actually, I understand why. And they’ve all been wonderful, but I’m seriously sleep-deprived.

On the writing front, I posted a link this week on Facebook to an interview I did with Raquel on the READINGS SUNSHINE blog in Portugal. The interview’s in English, so enjoy.

I’m writing every night — good thing the DH is a deep sleeper, because I’m clicking away only a few feet from the bed (sigh) — and Aden’s story is moving along nicely. I also received some terrific news this week on that new project I’ve been working on. I hope to share with you soon, but not quite yet. I’m superstitious and don’t want to jinx anything.

On the TV front, GRIMM was a repeat, so was SUPERNATURAL, and just about everything else. But tonight’s GAME OF THRONES was terrific, possibly the best episode yet. And the season finale of SOUTHLAND (some of the best writing on TV) was a shocker. I’m looking forward to the new season of STRIKE BACK, and before that TRUE BLOOD, although one never knows what the TB writers are going to come up with. It might be awful, it might be okay. But speaking of TB, I saw a picture on Facebook of Alexander Skarsgard wearing a t-shirt that read, “Keep Calm and Fuck Me.” Um. Okay. :D

And finally tonight, I leave you with something beautiful. I posted this to Facebook earlier, but if you didn’t see it, you should. This dance is sensuous and beautiful, an amazing demonstration of grace and strength, and Michael Bublé’s music is the perfect accompaniment. I have no idea what this video is doing on a site called Just For Laughs, but HERE IT IS. CHECK IT OUT WITH THE SOUND UP!

Okay, back to work for me. Gotta get some writing done before I catch a couple of hours sleep and then answer the door at 8:00 am. ::sigh::

CAN A VIRUS MAKE YOU A VAMPIRE?

Posted by dbreynolds on March 4, 2013

If you’ve read my books, you know that my answer to the above question is, “YES!” Or close enough. My vamps don’t permit themselves to be studied by science. In fact, they’re quite violent about stopping it. But we know this much — they’re definitely not dead. And what little study has been done tells us they’re infected with something like a symbiotic virus. So I found it amusing when I saw this headline on MSN.com recently, with a very scientific discussion of the subject (you’ll have to wait through the commercial.)

CAN A VIRUS MAKE YOU A VAMPIRE?

But let’s leave science behind for now, and move on to the fun stuff. (Yeah, yeah, I know, some science is fun. I’m a geek, too.) First up … audio books. I’ve had quite a few requests for audio versions of my books, and my publisher has asked me to ask you to go to Amazon and click. Not just any click, but on the button that says you’d like to see (or hear) an audio version of the books. Amazon’s a quirky place, though. Sometimes they have the request link, and sometimes they don’t. But the image below is what you’re looking for. Click the “tell us” link at the beginning of the paragraph. If you get a chance, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

More fun this month at The Romance Reviews. They’re celebrating their 2nd Anniversary with a big party. Daily giveaways and a Grand Prize, too. I’ll be featured this Thursday, March 7.

Romance Reviews 2013 Anni

I’m writing away every day and night. Aden’s story is developing, but so is Cyn and Raphael’s since I’m writing their next e-novella at the same time. Cyn and Kathryn are having some fun at the expense of certain vampire lords. You just knew those two were going to cause trouble, right? And if you didn’t, Raphael surely did. But it’s the guys’ fault for falling in love with strong women. They can’t be kept down! Mwahahahahaha!

My 100 book challenge continues apace. I’ve updated the list and I’m well on target. I owe GoodReads some reviews. I’ll try to get to those in the next couple of days. Maybe even tonight. Movies — I haven’t been out, since I’m hiding in my writer’s cave, but I did manage to watch Paranormal Activity while I exercised – pretty creepy, I must say. I’d already seen PA2, so was up to speed on that. And then moved on to PA3, which I didn’t think was as good, at least partly because there were continuity errors between it and PA’s 1 and 2. Different writer, I think. TELEVISION — JUSTIFIED continues to make me happy, although I’d be happier if there was a lot more Raylan on camera! >:( .. SUPERNATURAL has returned to its roots, with the Winchesters chasing monsters together, and GRIMM comes back this week! Yay!

All right, back to work, work, work. Someone’s gotta keep Cyn and Kathryn in line.

STILL WRITING

Posted by dbreynolds on February 11, 2013

Still working hard, though I confess I took way too long tonight to watch the Grammy Awards on TV. Thankfully, I DVR’d the whole thing, so skipped through the commercials and certain other parts. The Grammy Awards Show is the only show which can make the Oscar Awards Show seem short! Many good performances, though. Especially loved “The Weight” (The Band, 1968) by a whole stageful of talent, including Sir Elton John, T Bone Burnett, the Zac Brown Band, Mavis Staples, Mumford & Sons and Brittany Howard of the Alabama Shakes. The filled-stage collaborations are always some of the best performances. Also great were Maroon 5/Alicia Keys, The Black Keys, Justin Timberlake (with Jay-Z), Fun. and Mumford & Sons. And Prince is sexy as ever, even if he is a tiny guy. I was also happy to see that no one performer or song dominated, because that way most of my favorite groups won something. That either means I have excellent taste … or common taste. I’m going with excellent. :-)

I also caught Saturday’s SNL, although I actually watched it with the DH on Sunday. (How did I live before DVR?) Not a great show, but there was one segment that stood out, and that was Seth Meyer’s Weekend Update. Unfortunately, it stood out because the grammar Nazi in me was appalled! There was a segment called Date Survey, in which Seth reports, “A new survey finds the “number one thing single people judge the quality of their dates on is the quality of their teeth, followed by the quality of their grammar. Great news for WHOMEVER has both.” You would THINK that in a segment which lauds good grammar … THE EFFING GRAMMAR WOULD BE CORRECT! That sentence should properly read “… Great news for WHOEVER has both.” I wonder how many English teacher and geeky writers immediately tweeted, texted, emailed? For the record, I didn’t. I saved my grammar obsession for all of you. :D

If you want to watch the video yourself, you can find it HERE. The segment starts at 00:54 (after the commercial, of course.)

I’ve been thinking about Valentine’s Day, which is this week. Thinking about all my beautiful men and their much-loved women. Don’t you wish we could all stay young forever, too? ::sigh:: I need to read a good romance. I just finished reading Lisa Gardner’s newest thriller Touch and Go, and while it is simply brilliant, it is also about the disintegration of a family beginning with the cheating husband. (I’m not giving anything away–that fact is revealed in right up front.) So, what I need to read now is a good old-fashioned romance. Fortunately, I have a TBR pile that is deep and wide! LOL

Speaking of TBR piles, I did shorten mine by a miniscule bit this past week. Still adding to my 100 Books in a Year Challenge, which is HERE. Hopefully, I’ll post a couple of reviews on MY GOODREADS PAGE later this week, too.

And finally, you’ll notice some minor color changes to the Blog this week. The red and black was great, but the red was ultimately too difficult to read against the dark background, so I’ve changed it to blue. Blue still goes well with the whole moon theme … blue moon, right? ;-)

Okay, it’s back to writing for me. Hope your Valentine’s Day is spent with the one you love, and if not this week, then I hope you’re together very, very soon.

BLEARY EYED WRITER IN THE HOUSE!

Posted by dbreynolds on February 4, 2013

Yep, emerging from my writer cave once again to communicate with the outside world! :D I stayed up all last night, literally didn’t sleep. And I discovered two things … (1) I can’t write a big fight/battle scene when I’m really tired, and (2) I’m not in college anymore. That second observation has to do with age and the ability to stay up all night and still function the next day. LOL

I did manage to perk up in time for the Super Bowl. I know it’s a distinctly American thing, and many people in other countries don’t understand the game, but I love football! I didn’t even have a favorite team in this game, and I loved it anyway. Although that power outage right in the middle of the game was one for the record books. That was just weird. The commercials were pretty good, although no real standouts this year. My all-time favorite is still probably the DARTH VADER KID COMMERCIAL

This year, I liked the screaming goat Doritos commercial, and the Bud Light lucky chair Stevie Wonder/Zoe Saldana one. And the Jeep/Soldiers Coming Home ad put tears in my eyes. But I guess the best one had to be the CLYDESDALE Budweiser ad By the way, you can see all of the ads and vote on your favorites HERE.

And that’s it for Superbowl XLVII.

And now for this week’s tech report … BN.com shipped me a new Nook to replace my frozen one, and my Kindle continues to limp along. However, my microwave decided to burn up (or something) on Friday. I never realized how dependent I am on that thing until I didn’t have it this weekend. I had to heat my salsa con queso on the stove!! Oh, the humanity! LOL

Back to my writing stuff … I’m taking a survey of my readers. I posted it on Facebook yesterday, but for the rest of you … what are your favorite paranormal romance/urban fantasy book covers? Just leave it in the comments below, and thanks!

Hmmm, I think that’s it. I still need to write that big fight/battle scene tonight, so I better get started.

Have a good week, and I’ll be back here next Sunday!

WORK, WORK, WORK

Posted by dbreynolds on January 21, 2013

This is me, emerging from my writing cave and blinking at the bright light of the television playing a Buffy rerun, to greet all of you. I’ve been writing like crazy this week, feeling the pressure. That means not much else was going on.
.
I did send out all of the pending prizes, including the RAJMUND/BETRAYED contest (aka Krystof Killed Zosia), and the snap contest from last week’s post, which asked the quick question about where and what Cyn’s tattoo is (it’s a heart with a stylized R inside, and it’s over her left jugular vein.)
.
I ended up selecting four (4) winners, instead of three (3), in that contest since I screwed up the email address. The winners have all been notified and have responded, and they were …

Deli*@yahoo.com

Elle@aol.com

Email.p@gmail.com

Ptur@mchsi.com

We also caught up on the bookmark/bookplate requests, since I received the shipment of my pretty new bookmarks.
.
I’m hoping to add images to the freebies page soon. And I really am working on the map, but if I have to choose between the map or ADEN … my sexy tattooed vamp wins every time.
.
What else … No movies this week, although there are a couple coming out that I really want to see. Mama looks scary as hell, and I’ll probably regret it, but I want to see that movie. And, of course, Hansel and Gretel, with one of my personal faves, Jeremy Renner. But that’s for the future.
.
I really have been working hard in my cave, though I snuck out to watch my favorite Federal Marshal do his thing. He looks so pretty in a pair of 501s. I’m talking about Raylan Givens and Justified, for those of you unfortunates who haven’t had the pleasure yet. Also there was SNL, which managed to be pretty good this week. The Hobbit 18 sketch was funny for those of us nerdy enough to get all the jokes. You can watch it HERE. The Hunger Games skit was pretty funny, too.

I’m still working on my 100 book challenge. I’ve updated my list HERE. I’m judging RWA’s RITA awards again this year, so my reading this week included a couple of RITA contenders. They’re not my usual fare, but I read them, so they count! :-)
.
And that’s about it for this week. This is a 3-day weekend in the U.S., Martin Luther King Day tomorrow, plus the presidential inauguration. The Capitol Building’s all dressed up for the big event, should be quite the show, and dramatically fitting for MLK Day.

For my part, I’ll spend it the same way I did today … writing.
.
For all of you in the U.S., have a great 3-day holiday, and, everyone have a great week. See you back here next Sunday.

WATCH THE SKIES (and the streets, too)

Posted by dbreynolds on October 15, 2012

LUCAS is nearly here! The galley is proofed and the final is underway, and then … well, watch the skies, because as soon as I know something, I’ll blast a special update to everyone!

And speaking of watching the skies, did you all see this guy, Felix Baumgartner, who jumped into freefall from 24 miles above the earth, and BROKE THE SOUND BARRIER on his way down!! Wearing nothing but a space suit and helmet! Check out the video of him literally stepping into space … no tether, nothing. Can you imagine that first step? An amazing feat of courage and skill.
.
And back here on Earth, while Fearless Felix was diving from space, the Space Shuttle Endeavour was making its own final journey … down the streets of Los Angeles to its new permanent home at the California Science Center. Check out THESE PICTURES! How cool would it be to look out your window and see the Space Shuttle cruising past! Of course, it screwed up traffic something terrible, but still! I saw the space shuttle DISCOVERY land at Edwards Air Force Base once. It was the first flight after the Challenger disaster. My darling husband and I (he wasn’t my DH yet!) were on our way home from Las Vegas when we heard on the radio that they’d diverted the shuttle to Edwards, because of the weather. So, we diverted ourselves to Edwards, too, and it was incredible! This huge aircraft gliding down smooth as could be. Just beautiful.
.
In other back on Earth news, we went to a movie this week! Yes, finally! We saw the new Ben Affleck film, Argo. He wrote, directed and starred in it, along with John Goodman, Alan Arkin and Bryan Cranston. Excellent movie! I see Academy gold in Affleck’s future … again.
.
On the small screen … I didn’t watch that much, because I was too busy with LUCAS, but I did watch the finale of STRIKE BACK, which was great! I’m only sorry the season is over already!!! It seems like it just started, and now I have to wait for my next dose of the Section 20 guys. :( I’m still catching up on CASTLE, because I watch that when I exercise. But other than that, there are a bunch of shows backed up on my DVR, because I’ve been BUSY! With LUCAS … so, no complaints.
.
I did post several book reviews on MY GOODREADS PAGE. And I’m currently reading Eileen Wilks latest Lupi book, MORTAL TIES. I’ll be adding that review as soon as I finish.
.
Now that LUCAS is on his way … at least I’ve done everything I can do … I’ll probably take a day/night off. Maybe take my DH out to dinner, maybe get a drink for myself since I have the night off … Nice cold vodka, couple of olives … and then I’ll go home and sleep, because I’m a wuss and that’s what a martini makes me want to do! LOL I’ll enjoy it while I’m drinking it, though!
.
Okay, I’m going to watch something fun from my list of DVR’d programs, and then tomorrow I’ll be back to work. Unless I take the DH out to dinner instead. ;)
.
See you next week, but in the meantime, keep an eye out for a special blast announcement, because you never know …

AH, LUCAS … (and 9 inches explained)

Posted by dbreynolds on October 8, 2012

Let’s begin with the sublime … and that would be Lucas. I sent the edits/revisions back to my publisher, and while no one enjoys THAT process, I have to say, I DID enjoy working with Lucas again. He’ll definitely be getting another story, because I am NOT finished with him yet. Sweeeeet.
.
And speaking of future stories, does anyone out there know how to work AutoRealm? It’s a fantasy role-playing mapper software that’s available on the web. I’m looking for a software I can use to create a map of the territories. I think this one will work, but I can’t access their Help file, because of some Windows incompatibility. If you know anything about it, please either comment on this blog, or email me at dbreynoldswriter@live.com. Thanks!
.
And about those 9 inches and twenty minutes … and no, I’m not talking about Lucas, because as I noted on Facebook, at 20 minutes, Lucas is just getting started. (Yum.) But I did promise an explanation, and it’s very worthwhile, so here goes. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and last year, women all over the country posted the color of their bra on Facebook. It got a lot of attention in the press, and so this year, people tried to come up with something similar. There happen to be two different DMs floating around Facebook, but the one in question asks women to take their SHOE size (Naturally. What? You thought it was something else?) and combine it with how long it takes to fix their hair in the morning, and post it thusly … 9 inches, twenty minutes. You’re encouraged to DM all of your friends, but I don’t like doing that, so I’m explaining it here. I do, however, encourage everyone to participate and do whatever they can to raise awareness of something that has probably touched all of our lives.
.
On a lighter note, I’ve taken to watching CASTLE on DVD while I exercise. I was reluctant to watch this series, because I sooooo loved Nathan Fillion’s Captain Mal in Firefly (TV Series) and Serenity (movie.)But I read all of the Nikki Heat books over the last few months, and it made me curious enough to take a look. And now I’m hooked. I’m only on season one, so still lots to go. I also watched the latest episode of GRIMM, and I have a question … did everyone get a voice over play by play of the action, or was it just MY DVR that somehow screwed up? It was irritating as hell, whatever it was. And the episode wasn’t all that great either. Still haven’t watched Once Upon a Time. I just can’t generate the interest. I was, however, VERY interested in the Season Premier of SUPERNATURAL! The Winchester boys are back and pretty as ever!

Just so you know, there are TWO spiders on the wall behind me. Way up high on the wall. Too high for me to reach, since this part of my house has really high ceilings. One spider is really big, the other one small, and they’re very close to each other, but haven’t moved in a long time. You know how it is with spiders, though. It’s the small ones that are gonna get you. I’m being philosophical about it. Even if they drop, they won’t drop on me. On the other hand, I’m probably going to zap them both with a shot of Raid before I retire for the night. :D

Books, books, books! I know! I have to write my reviews, but I was working on LUCAS all this week. I did, however, read the newest John Sandford, which came out last week! It was a Virgil Flowers called Mad River, and it was GREAT! I love Sandford and I love Virgil! And now I have to wait another whole year for the next one. ::sigh::
.
Hmm, okay, I think that’s it for me this week. LUCAS is near, and I’m counting the days. Man, I can hardly wait to share his story with you all!
.
One final note … Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian friends! Have a lovely holiday and don’t eat too much. (Ha!)
.
See you back here next week.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED! AND WE HAVE MOVIES!

Posted by dbreynolds on September 3, 2012

Let’s start this week with two fantastic events from LAST week. First up was my Q & A at the fan board dedicated to J.R.Ward’s wonderful Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I stopped in at THE CELL for a few days last week. You can still read the posts by following the link. I’m sure you find it just as interesting as I did. Great questions! And I want to thank Stehph and Cinda for inviting me!
.
And more great questions (I really had to THINK this week!) during my two hour live chat on GoodReads sponsored by the Gotta Have Paranormal Romance with a Kick Group. It was a VERY lively two hours and I loved every minute of it. I want to thank everyone who took time to come by, but especially t’irla aka Barbara who set the whole thing up! You can find the thread HERE.
.
If you weren’t at either of these chats, you don’t know what you’re missing … including giveaways! Ha!
.
I’ve got a few more promo events lined up for BETRAYED in a couple of weeks, and I’ll post the details when they come closer. I’m also actively booking promos for LUCAS! Oooh, I can hardly wait for October! I’m in lo-o-ove!
.
Hmm, okay, back on earth, I saw some movies this week!! Cool! Three movies!! First up was BOURNE LEGACY. I’m a big fan of the Matt Damon Bourne movies, and also a fan of Jeremy Renner, so I was excited to see this movie, and it didn’t disappoint. I loved it! One thing I will say is that unless you saw the Matt Damon movies, you might have trouble figuring out what was going on. They did VERY little back story, and even knowing those movies inside and out, I was wishing for the rewind button on my remote control a few times. But excellent movie, lots of action, great chemistry between Renner and Rachel Weisz, and Jeremy Renner has a very sweet smile. :) The next movie I saw was THE EXPENDABLES 2. Talk about from the sublime to the ridiculous. I guess the movie was fun. There were some truly awful lines, delivered in truly awful ways, but the actors seemed to be aware it was awful and were sharing the joke with us. So … okay. Liam Hemsworth is cute as a button, and Jason Statham was terrific as always. :) And then movie #3, which I watched on my satellite PPV, so I DID have my remote rewind button, and that was BATTLESHIP which was far better than I expected! Plus, I got some extra Alexander Skarsgard viewing out of it. Always a good thing.
.
And when I wasn’t watching movies, I was reading a truly excellent manuscript by my writing partner, STEVE McHUGH. It’s the second book of his Hellequin Chronicles series, and it’s even better than that first book,CRIMES AGAINST MAGIC, which is selling like crazy over on Amazon.
.
And when I finish that, I’ll be back to writing my new story, and thinking up ways to entertain you all with the next Cyn & Raphael e-novella, and then … ADEN. :)
.
I want to leave you all this week with proof positive that apparently I’m a philistine with absolutely no understanding of the greater arts. Now, I’m a writer and a reader, and a huge consumer of all types of music. And I absolutely believe that art and music serve the public good. But … this is an electric cord, people! LOL Follow the link to the painting in THIS STORY and judge for yourself.
.
See you all next week! And Happy Labor Day Weekend to all of my U.S. readers!
